Writing in Pajamas
Most people think writers lay around in their PJ's putting words on paper while sipping black coffee all day. How I wish this were true!
Weekdays; There's the 9 to 5 day job.
Most weekend days I get more done if I set a schedule.
9 a.m. to Noon; Write
Noon to 1 p.m.: Walk dogs and eat lunch
1 p.m. to 2 p.m.: Clean house, laundry, shop, deal with correspondence
2 p.m. to 4 p.m.: Try to get back to writing
4 p.m. to 5 p.m.: Judge Judy
5 p.m. to 6 p.m.: Work on promoting books
6 p.m: Cook dinner
Next day try to maintain that schedule again. None of this includes the other things life throws at you on a daily basis. Life interferes and its harder to deal with those things when you work from home. If you're in an office 9 to 5 it's set in stone. When you're home time mushes together and it's easy to lose your hold on it. I think keeping a schedule is the hardest challenge in a writer's life.
